Tigers Not Out For Blood
The Annual overhyped Winter Meetings are rolling along in full swing. There was a feeling of uncertainty for most of the Tigers fanbase you could feel all around late in the season. Scott Harris coming on gave a little glimpse of what is too come with the team finally recognizing they just simply weren't good enough. It should have been expected he would let a lot of the bad signings and average position players walk with how poor this teams defense and hitting have been. I mean you can only drag along the same group of guys for so long when your underperforming the way they have been. So we all kind of saw this coming we knew that there had to be a bit of change incoming. The question from me a few weeks ago was does the team make a push for Miggy's last year or focus on the future?
Well we just got our answer straight from the horses mouth clear as day we have an idea how this team will be shaped going forward. That may not sit well with a lot of folks wanting to win now, I say hold on with that this team can be good. Not only that look at this free agent class and what we have coming up through the pipeline it it is the obvious move. This free agent class has a lot of older veteran players and rotational pieces. Do you really want to shell out big money for one or two seasons maybe of a big name that isn't really producing. Not really something that makes sense. Yes Correa is still out there, but, what do we do with Baez then? Just eat his contract or move him to second base where he is even worse at fielding. I raised this question as well, do you really want to lock in a big money contract with Miggy's about to expire? Especially on an aging player? Not me no way no how would anyone in their right mind make a move like that. Their isn't a lot of GM'S who would which may be why Correa had a hard time finding a home last year. Plus if you take a deeper dive into this free agent class their isn't a lot of 'younger' studs that are worthy of a big time pay day. Hold up Aaron Judge might be on the market, whatever man that ain't happening the Yankees or a big market team will lock him up, Trea Turner just signed, the only Veteran pitcher that made sense in Verlander just signed. So yeah like I said not a lot out there, especially when you are unloading bad contracts and have some massive money dropping off next year. So development it is and that is really the only move too make.
I am not really one too double down and make the same point twice. Yet here I am like I said in the Schoop of Things , about how he had no choice. Well the Tigers don't really have a choice here now either do they. They have been down bad for such a time that you have a boatload of prospects just licking their chops for an opportunity, and you just added a new wave of them in the recent draft class. Just because those arent Harris's guys doesn't mean they cant be. I mean come on everyone has been talking about how loaded their prospects are. Not just the Tigers brass, add in a delayed development for the young pitching staff and you cant really hate this decision. Although, man wouldn't signing a big name sure make us feel good. It just isn't the right move and we need to accept it. This isn't too say they wont do anything at all because there are definitely some holes too fill. Going small in those spots makes sense, hopefully we can get the right pieces in place to be relevant and not eat up cap space. If development of your young core is your way to go then so be it, the Tigers arent out for blood this offseason. We did that last offseason and look what happened, took a step backwards and their was a dissatisfaction all around. Seeing Harris's track record so far also speaks for itself so we have no reason to not trust him right now. We in fact should respect and trust this decision and hope to reap the benefits in the next few years.
